SUNYCAP has a large number of programs it sponsors each year.

These include:

Professional development opportunities for its members through the New Professionals Orientation (NPO) The mission of NPO is to provide new members of the admissions profession the opportunity to learn about SUNY, professional development opportunities, best practices for recruiting, travel tricks of the trade and to network with other new professionals. The program is planned to be fast paced, interactive and highly stimulating.NPO traditionally takes place in the beginning of September at System Administration in Albany.

Allowing membership to participate in a number of grant and scholarship opportunities to attend the SUNYCAP annual conference along with various professional development opportunities outside of SUNY.

Sponsoring the OpInform (Operation Information) programs held for school counselors at SUNY colleges and universities throughout the state. The mission statement of the OpInform Committee is to Develop and maintain a system of professional communication and dialogue among admissions professionals, with the guidance community. The Operation Inform series provides an opportunity for school counselors and SUNY admission representatives to discuss what's new and different and current issues and concerns. It is to serve as a professional forum for discussion of admission policies and procedures with the guidance community. This committee works jointly with SUNY System Administration in the best interest of guidance counseling community, applicants and the University. The entire purpose of these series is to educate everyone involved in SUNY as a whole.

SUNYCAP hosts its annual conference at various locations throughout the state of New York in which all members of SUNYCAP along with local Guidance Counselors are invited to attend. A large number of professional development workshops are presented by SUNYCAP members and outside agencies.

SUNYCAP has also implemented a SUNYCAP Leadership Institute SLI workshop in which members complete seven workshops (28 credit hours) and are given a certificate of completion for their attendance. All workshops are worth 4 credits and five workshops are required for program completion. Workshop sessions are offered at the annual conference and in conjunction with SUNYCAP OpInform programs.
