Onondaga Community College, Admission Counselor - Special Populations (11/4/2008)

Onondaga Community College seeks a talented and enthusiastic professional for the position of Admission Counselor – Special Populations.  Under the direct supervision of the Director of Admission and Recruitment, the Admission Counselor – Special Populations professionally represents Onondaga Community College to prospective students, high school guidance counselors, OCC alumni, faculty and staff on campus and off campus at meetings and events.  The Admission Counselor/Special Populations is responsible for targeting and tracking prospective students while participating in the strategies and activities outlined in the Strategic Enrollment Management plan with a specific focus on international students, students with special needs, adult learners and other unique populations.

The Admission Counselor/Special Populations collaborates with colleagues within the Enrollment Services Division; particularly at Student Central, Student Services, Instructional Services and Continuing and Extended Learning. He/she participates in activities that support SEM initiatives from these areas with emphasis on those departments whose mission is to serve the above special populations (e.g. Disability Services, International Student Office, and Evening Coordinator).

Other essential job functions include representing the college at events for traditional aged and adult learners, (on and off campus), and keeping current on OCC programs and offerings, as well as best practices and trends in admissions in higher education.

The Admission Counselor/Special Populations is expected to be competent with technology (web, instant messaging, e-mail, prospect student tracking systems) and to be skilled in applying technology to enhance recruiting activities.

This position requires travel to high schools, community based organizations, churches and other forums to inform prospective students and families of admission standards, academic programs and campus life.  A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State is required, and access to own vehicle to travel to off campus events may be required in the event college vehicles are unavailable.

SUNY Canton, Admissions Counselor (6/26/08)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Represent the college at high schools, college fairs, community colleges, and information programs. Interview prospective students and families discussing curriculum content, student life, academic support services, and the students qualifications for admission. Review applications for admission to the college. Daily contact with prospective students, parents, and the counseling community expected. Some evening and weekend commitments. Extensive travel required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required at time of appointment; Masters preferred. Experience in admissions or student services helpful. Valid NYS drivers license required for appointment. Experience with diverse populations, excellent written and oral communication skills, technology/computer software skills, flexibility to deal with changing needs of the department, and ability to work in a high-paced work environment is also desired.

SUNY at Plattsburgh, Admissions Advisor (6/24/08)

SUNY at Plattsburgh is currently conducting a search for an Admissions Advisor.  The ideal candidate should be a creative and motivated professional with excellent marketing abilities; possess outstanding oral and written communication skills; and excellent technology skills. Anticipated starting date:  as soon after August 1, 2008 as possible.

Responsibilities:  Conducting large-group presentations; interviewing prospective students; reviewing undergraduate applications; answering correspondence and electronic mail; overnight travel approximately six weeks (fall) and four weeks (spring) to targeted recruitment areas throughout New York State including the Long Island region of New York; coordinating a variety of recruitment activities aimed at attracting new students to campus, and supervising the office’s campus tour program and special group visitor programs.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Journalism, or related field and valid driver’s license are required.  Attention to detail, strong analytical abilities and competent computer skills and e-communications are a must.  Experience in college admissions and a Master’s degree are preferred.  Familiarity with Banner software and/or knowledge of SUNY Plattsburgh and surrounding region, as well as the Long Island region of New York, will be highly regarded.
